The Circle represents the world —
the world of life — and the womb. The border around
the circle are faces of the “greeters” with open
arms and hands to assist and welcome the “newcomer”.
The emerging person may be viewed as a child being born to
his future parents and loved ones; or as a person who is passing
from this world into his death transition; or as a person
facing any major transition during his life journey; remembering
that we are not ever alone—we are always assisted, both
physically and spiritually, by those around us, the seen and
unseen.
I saw this robe design in a vision in early 1989, and drew
a quick sketch of it, but it wasn't until the winter of 1991
that I actually created the robe.
Shortly afterward sewing the robe, I had a dream where I
was told that this robe was a "healing robe." I was
also told that I was not to sell it to just anyone...but that
the right person would come along. I was also requested
to make another, identical robe, just for myself, before letting
go of the "Mother" robe. During the dream, I agreed
to follow through with the requests.
A few weeks later, I got a call from Ethyl Lund, president
of the Southest Alaska Regional Health Corporation, telling
me that she had heard about this robe. SEARHC at that
time was just beginning to explore the connection between
Western medicine and the spiritual healing practices of the
Alaskan Indian tribes through an innovative program called
Raven's Way. After seeing the photos I sent her, she
said that the Corporation had decided to purchase the robe
and use it for healing purposes.
The robe has travelled extensively for individual and group
use.
